How should cycling clothes fit?
Cycling clothing should fit snugly to the body and follow the figure of your body. It must do so for the sake of wind resistance and thus increase the speed of your driving and decrease the energy used. Every cycling season thorough studies are made of how tight-fitting cycling clothes can increase speed. It turns out that tight-fitting clothes can cut your time down by 4-5 minutes every 100 km.
One less measurable metric is that if your cycling clothes fit really well, it also increases your self-confidence, which gives your performance an extra edge.
Cycling clothing should be tight
Tight-fitting cycling clothing means that the wind has less material to grab, and the wind thus glides past you more easily - instead of slowing down your speed. Should it be an ultimate experience, you can buy some of our cycling suits.
What are cycling clothes made of?
We only settle for high-quality professional products that have the right fit and sit comfortably on your body. The cycling clothing we sell is made from the best materials on the market. The materials consist of a combination of modern synthetic fibers:
These materials are the most widely used materials in cycling clothing.
Cycling clothing is primarily made of elastane - also known as lycra. Elastane is a synthetic fiber known for high elasticity, durability, and strength. When the garment is used in products, elastane is typically used in blends with other fibers to provide increased stretchability.
Large parts of elastane are found in cycling clothing, such as BIB shorts, short and long cycling jerseys, and cycling clothing such as arm warmers, knee warmers, and leg warmers. Elastane is pretty much used in anything that sits close to your body. Elastane is thus less common in outer layers such as bicycle jackets and wind vests, where a stretchable nylon/ elastane blend will be less durable than a pure nylon fabric to give you the perfect windbreaker ability.
Advantages: Elastane blends are soft and stretchy, and elastane in the material will often provide better fit and movement.
Disadvantages: Elastane will make other stronger materials such as nylon weaker. Stretchability is therefore not always a good trait.
Polyester is a synthetic fiber that covers an even broader chemical term "polymers" used in clothing.
Polyester is mostly used for the production of outer layers, such as wind jackets and cycling jackets. In short, it can be described as a kind of plastic used in the production of cycling clothing. As polyester largely does not absorb water, its capabilities of drying are excellent and will therefore be extremely quick-drying, which is also the reason why it is used extensively on the Danish market due to our unpredictable weather.
Advantages: Light, strong, does not absorb water and therefore dries very quickly. Also provides an impressive amount of heat compared to weight.
Disadvantages: Not quite as strong an outer material as nylon. It will quickly smell if you use it as a base layer, and have a negative environmental impact if it is not recycled.
Polypropylene is broadly reminiscent of polyester and both go under the term: "thermoplastic polymer". Polypropylene has the same property as polyester and absorbs no water at all, and is therefore also very quick-drying. Besides, polypropylene cycling clothing is very light, which is a very important factor when you’re out on the road.
Advantages: Water-repellent, dries even faster than polyester, good sweat-transporting properties.
Disadvantages: Will quickly smell and have low UV resistance.
